| Minneapolis native, Doug Forbes, has
been creating art since before grade school. After receiving an education
in fine arts and graphic design, he apprenticed with a tattoo artist
and draws on these experiences to make his artwork – primarily
with oils and acrylic on a variety of surfaces. However, Forbes feels
his biggest gain was the ability to move past the rigidity of his
education. “In school, I tried to follow direction and
create something that would inspire, sell, or change the world.
It never worked. It was always so sterile – lifeless,”
he recalls. “When I left school I had nothing to lose, so
I started creating work that I cared about rather than what might
              be profitable.”
