Otherworldly Visions

The Oil Paintings of Kris Wlodarski

April 17th, 2010 · Written by · No Comments

The oil paintings of Kris Wlodarski reflect a haunting and otherworldly vision, depicting those moments of insanity when instruments of cultural suppression are suspended in favor of the fulfillment of carnal desires. Employing emotive color schemes that are often monochromatic or desaturated, Wlodarski combines elements of fetishism and passion with absurdity in order to tempt the viewer into a world populated by beautiful and unsettling beings.

“They exist in a space that has a sense of immediacy and raging desire, and yet they remain isolated – somewhere between this world and the next,” explains the artist.

Born in Poland, Wlodarski graduated from the University of Zielona Gora with an MA in philosophy and cites Gottfried Helnwein, Joel Peter Witkin, Francis Bacon, and modern body-art movements as among his influences. He also spends his time as a composer, musician, film-maker, and tattoo artist. He is currently living and working in London.
